First Responders
After several years of deliberation, challenges, and desire for First Responders, we finally decided in 2024 to join them. Since this year, we have been activated for all types of emergencies in our fire district.
Who is a first responder?
A first responder is an individual who typically has no medical education and responds to a call from the health dispatch service, arriving at the scene of an incident to carry out life-saving measures.
First responders are activated for helping citizens :
- in emergency medical situations
- when no emergency medical vehicle is available
- in more remote environments
- where the access time of rescue vehicles is longer
- and of course also in dense settlements, where immediate measures save lives
Purpose of first responders
In Slovenia, a system of first responders (PPO) is being established. The purpose of this system is to improve the survival of persons with sudden cardiac arrest in the field and certain other life-threatening conditions. The purpose of the first responder system is for PPO to reach the patient before the arrival of the emergency medical team or other rescue services and to be the first to provide proper assistance to persons with sudden cardiac arrest or certain other life-threatening conditions. The advantage of PPO is that they are close to such patients and can therefore act quickly. Firefighters are very suitable carriers of the PPO system, as we want to help people, we are well organized, more or less equipped, we have a communication system and we know our environment, so our access time to the patient is short.

Organization
We are activated for accidents and rescuing citizens in the fire district of the society, except when it is assessed that our professional help is also needed in a wider area. Our fire district includes
